Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about the programme, participation requirements, conservation commitments, and how to get involved.
Mentawai One Pte. Ltd. oversees the integrated industrial ecosystem within the SEZ Padang extension on the Sumatran mainland. It selects partners, manages the ecosystem's integration, and ensures that industrial profits fund the permanent protection of Siberut Island and its indigenous communities.
Yes. Every tenant, operator, and strategic partner within the SEZ must hold — or be actively pursuing — B Corp certification. This is a structural condition of participation, verified annually. It ensures that environmental and social performance is held to the same standard as financial returns.
All partners commit between 1 and 5 per cent of revenues to the Mentawai Conservation Foundation. This levy is embedded in partnership agreements and is non-negotiable. It creates predictable, long-term funding to expand Siberut's protected area from 48 to 85 per cent of the island.
The ecosystem spans geothermal energy, green hydrogen, desalination, brine valorisation, data centres, modular construction, HVO biofuel production, seaplane manufacturing, HVDC cable manufacturing, intensive agriculture, green banking, and integrated logistics. These are deliberately interconnected to maximise synergies.
Conservation expansion is pursued in collaboration with Mentawai communities through free, prior, and informed consent. Traditional land tenure is recognised within protected area governance. The programme supports cultural preservation, economic empowerment, and community self-determination.
The integrated ecosystem targets a 31.4 per cent IRR during mature operations. Individual SPVs have their own risk-return profiles — for example, the brine valorisation facility projects a 23.7 per cent IRR and US$156.3 million NPV over 20 years. Detailed financial models are available through the investor portal.
The SEZ Padang extension is on the Sumatran mainland, within Indonesia's Special Economic Zone framework. It is deliberately separated from the Mentawai islands by the Mentawai Strait, ensuring that industrial activity does not encroach upon island ecosystems.
