Mentawai Bay is designed to be more than a destination — it is a model for what sustainable island development can look like when the financial architecture is built around conservation rather than despite it. The challenges faced by Bali, Phuket, and Koh Samui are the starting point, not the benchmark. This programme exists to demonstrate what happens when you refuse to repeat those mistakes.

In 2014, Boedi Sentosa visited Siberut through the Buat Mentawai Bangga scholarship programme. The island's extraordinary natural beauty and the stark contrast with significant poverty and lack of basic services prompted a vision for comprehensive, long-term development. A decade later, that vision met Jaime Terauds of ilipa Ventures Group — 23 years living and working in Southeast Asia, and an equally deep commitment to getting this right. The programme began.

Every destination that has sacrificed its identity for growth has followed the same trajectory. Mentawai One is structured to prevent that trajectory from taking hold — through density caps, conservation covenants, B Corp requirements, the 15-minute city framework, and a 100-year Legacy Trust that ensures the mission outlasts its founders. The vision is not aspirational. It is constitutional.
