The programme is designed to create lasting benefit for communities across the Mentawai islands and the Padang mainland — through direct employment, skills development, health and education infrastructure, and meaningful economic participation.
Local Hiring and Skills Transfer
The integrated industrial ecosystem creates thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities across energy, manufacturing, agriculture, logistics, and digital services. A structured skills transfer programme ensures that local workers are trained and promoted into technical and leadership roles, not confined to entry-level positions.
Workforce Development
Partnerships with technical institutions and vocational training providers build a pipeline of skilled workers for the zone's diverse operations. Scholarship programmes, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training create pathways from education to employment — with particular focus on opportunities for young people in the Mentawai region.
Community Health Infrastructure
Access to quality healthcare is a critical determinant of community wellbeing. The programme supports the expansion of health infrastructure in underserved areas, drawing on the zone's desalination capabilities to improve clean water access and leveraging the logistics network to improve medical supply chains.
Local Economic Participation
Beyond direct employment, the programme fosters local enterprise through supply chain opportunities, small business support, and community-owned ventures. The goal is broad-based economic participation — ensuring that the benefits of industrial development are widely shared, not concentrated.
Detailed community benefit metrics and targets are being finalised in consultation with local stakeholders. These will be published as part of the programme's impact reporting framework.
